COURSE Description
Level II, a semi-private, intensive, accelerated orientation for artists focused on participating in the New York City art ecosystem whether you are an NYC resident or live elsewhere.
Artistic success can take many forms, we will examine this fact through case studies and candid
discussions of real working art lives. Indeed, when has one transitioned from an emerging to
mid-career artist and what does that imply?
This course focuses on building the infrastructure necessary to sustain a long-term artistic career. We’ll look at maintaining relationships and contracts with multiple dealers, advisors, and collectors.
We’ll emphasize the importance of building a robust studio infrastructure, including comprehensive archiving and database management so that every work, past and present, can be accounted for, located, and managed. We’ll also explore how to develop AI as an informed studio assistant by building a knowledge base around your practice, your archive, and your career. Additional topics included sustaining a long term artistic life outside of the conventional nine to five economy through discussions of pricing, payment, taxes, investing, insurance, law, and real estate.
Participants will learn to build greater stability while preserving the independence that defines a professional artistic practice.
